ACT Workshop ZAPS Learning Company

Over the past 50 test prep seasons, ZAPS Learning Company and their presenters have helped thousands of students raise their college entrance test scores.

ZAP Provides:
5 hours test preparation seminar
Materials including a comprehensive Study Guide and 18-24 Practice Test

We are planning to have the ZAPS Learning Company present a workshop on March 4, 2012 from 1:30 to 6:30. The cost of the workshop will be $79.00. Students can go to www.zaps.com
to register for the ACT Workshop. The registration is open now.

I would like to encourage all of my 10th and 11th Grades students to sign up for this ACT Workshop. ZAPS provides professional coaching and delivers quality workshops and study materials at a reasonable price.

Students will receive:
24 practice tests for the ACT and Zapping the ACT study guide
Specific strategies for each type of question on the ACT
General test taking methods
Complete explanation of each question and answer on the practice tests
Unique system for analyzing errors to identify strengths and weaknesses

Standards for Dual Enrollment/ACCELERATE Classes

1. Advanced Diploma 2. Must have a semester grade of 80 or higher in all completed high school courses ( this starts the first semester of 9th grade year ) 3. Must pass the required placement test at Troy University regardless of the ACT score unless waved by the university. 4. 20 ACT Composite score or above 5. Students that substitute a PLAS course must take 4 TERMS in the ACCELERATE program. The student grade will be based on average for terms 1 and 2 for the 1st semester and the average for terms 3 and 4 for the 2nd semester. 6. All Dual Enrollment/ACCELERATE grades will be recorded on the Pike Liberal Arts School student transcript for course units required to graduate. In addition, the student's grade will be recorded with the Troy University transcript for college credit. 7. Students that do not pass either the Dual Enrollment or ACCELERATE class will not qualify to graduate. The student would be required to retake the class failed and make a passing grade to graduate.

2010-2011 School Immunization Requirements mandated by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health: Every student age 11 0r 12 entering the 6th Grade is now required to have a dose of Tdap vaccine.

Community Service Hours Advanced and Standard Diploma Seniors of 2011

It is important to work steady on your community service hours. From this point on all graduates of Pike Liberal Arts will be required to have at least 75 hours of documented service hours in order to graduate.
*Community service hours must be reported and documented within four months of completing the service.
* All service hours must be completed and submited prior to Christmas break of the senior year.
*Although service hours may be completed through PLAS outside of the school day, a maximum of 40 HOURS affiliated with the school may count toward the 75 required. This does not mean that you cannot have as many hours as you want from the school, but you must have at least an additional 35 HOURS outside of the school.
*Community service forms can be found in the cabinet outside the counseling office or on the Pike Liberal Arts web site.
*Remember to turn your forms into me or place them in your community service file which is located in my office.
*Examples of acceptable community service activities include:
Blood Drive
Church Work
Heart Walk
Hospital Volunteer
Mission Trips (capped at 25 to count toward the 75 need) However the other hours will count toward additional community service hours.
Bell Ringer for the Salvation Army
Habitat for Humanity
Nursing Homes
Tutoring
You will not be awarded any hours for community service that has been court ordered as a form of punishment or any activity where payment has been received.

Remember that the Seniors will need to have all of your community service hours by the Christmas holidays. This does not mean that you have to stop helping others in our community.

Volunteer hours are very important !!
Community service forms can be printed off of the Pike Liberal Arts website under the academic link/ high school. Also they can still be found outside of my office in the basket on the white table.

**Pioneer Museum of Alabama is looking for volunteers to clean the grounds and cut grass. Call the Pike Pioneer Museum for more information.
